Drawings

Drawing is the most important part of any picture. Drawing teaches me how to see, and it is only seeing which makes it possible to put an image on paper. Making marks on paper is what humans have done since the first. It is at once satisfying and challenging; errors are more easily discerned than what is right. The secret of drawing well is no more and no less than constant practice. Every painter knows the feeling that everything has gone wrong but I have found that I can ‘draw my way out of trouble’, often even overcoming mistakes made with the paint.
